Now for something completely different.
The project: A cake for my friend's mother, an acclaimed sculptor, to celebrate her 70th birthday.
The stipulation: "It should be sculptural and fun to make." (Good to eat is a given)
The audience: One septuagenarian, talented in the fine, social, and culinary arts; her loving family, and half of who's who in our local art world.
The venue: The gallery, of course.
Set aside the star tip, self. Just walk away from that lowly star tip....
Bronze does not make good eating, but liquid gold caramel, cast slabs of cashew brittle, and "hammered" bars of dark chocolate did the trick. I added a cantilever, a whirl of Pocky spokes, and a spray of candles. Happy Birthday to a special woman.
